A total of 503 people were injured in Colombia by pyrotechnic gunpowder in December during various December holidays, of which 105 were injured this Christmas weekend, the health ministry said this Sunday.

This is 85 fewer than last year, when a total of 588 people were injured and 2 died, according to the latest government report.

There are 181 children under the age of 18 among those affected this year, and the largest number of cases was registered on December 7, when the traditional night of candles was celebrated and there were 91 cases, and the next day, which was a holiday, with 93 cases.

In addition, 90.9% of cases are burns and lacerations, but there are cases of amputation and damage to the eyes.

Poisoning

In addition, the Ministry of Health also reported 37 cases of poisoning with alcohol mixed with methanol, of which 25 died.

This is a lower figure than last Wednesday’s suggestion. Bogota Health Secretariatwhere the death of 37 people and 51 poisonings were registered, of which 7 were critical cases, due to the intake of counterfeit alcohol.

In Bogota, in recent weeks, coinciding with the arrival of the December holidays, there has been a sharp increase in the number of poisonings resulting from the consumption of inexpensive counterfeit liquor and artisanal distillation, which are usually sold in unauthorized establishments or on the same street.
