Just replacing old bulbs with new LED bulbs can save the country up to 1.5 gigawatts of electricity during peak hours.
Already in January, every adult citizen of Ukraine will get five LED lamps free of charge instead of old incandescent lamps. This was announced on Sunday, December 25, in the Telegram of the Ministry of Reintegration.
“Starting from the new year, adult Ukrainians will get five LED lamps for free instead of old incandescent lamps and thus contribute to balancing Ukraine’s electrical system,” the message said.
The Ministry of Reintegration noted that simply replacing old light bulbs with new LED lamps could save the country up to 1.5 gigawatts of electricity during peak hours.
“This is a significant saving. For example, 50 million LED bulbs can unload the work of an entire reactor of a nuclear power plant,” the department compared.
The person who decides to use the program must first submit an application for replacing lamps in the Diia application, go to the Ukrposhta branch and exchange five old-style lamps for the same number of LEDs.
Europe will allocate funds for the purchase of approximately 30 million light-emitting diode lamps (LED) for Ukraine.
