About ten winter sports enthusiasts were buried under an avalanche in the Austrian ski area Lech/Zurs on Sunday afternoon, Kurier reported.
One person was rescued with injuries, police said in the evening.
The search and rescue operation continues with helicopters and avalanche search dogs.
The avalanche came down around 15:00 in the area of Tritkopf (2720 meters). Soon, several helicopters, including three from Tyrol, and several search parties flew towards the avalanche cone. Helicopters landed and repeatedly flew over the Flexenpass (1773 meters).
According to preliminary information, more than 100 people were involved in the operation.
“We are doing everything we can to save winter sports enthusiasts,” said the municipality of Lech. Rescuers asked for searchlights to continue the search in the dark.
