Addressing congressmen during the vote, Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi said the bill contained powerful aid to Ukraine and recalled Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s speech to Congress this week .
“The government budget, among other things, will support extraordinary heroes in Ukraine fighting on the front lines of the battle for democracy. With this piece of legislation, we are proud to give them another significant package of security, economic and humanitarian assistance,” Pelosi said.
The bill contains nearly $45 billion in additional aid for Ukraine. Among the programs expected to support Ukraine is a $9 billion security assistance initiative for Ukraine, which includes providing equipment, training, logistics and supplies in support of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
$11.88 billion will be replenished with US weapons, which America supplies to Ukraine from its stocks, within the framework of the president’s powers. According to the bill, the US President will receive new powers to transfer weapons from US stockpiles of $14.5 billion to Ukraine. Almost $2.5 billion is also provided for Ukraine’s humanitarian needs, and $13.37 billion for economic and budgetary support.
