A 34-year-old resident of the Ivano-Frankivsk region will spend seven years in prison for stealing a box with donations to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
A man stole more than 1,800 hryvnias from a donation box in the temple of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in the Vinnitsa region. This was stated in the decision of the Kazatinsky City District Court.
A 34-year-old resident of the Gorodenkovsky district was previously convicted of property crimes, said police in the Vinnitsa region. In August of this year, he got drunk and entered the church of St. Seraphim of Sarov in Kazatin.
“Despite the patrons being present, he stole from the table a plastic donation box filled with money of various denominations in the amount of 1,875.50 hryvnias,” the case said.
The women inside the temple tried to stop the raider, but he still stole the box.
Immediately after the crime, the accused was detained by operatives near the church and confessed his guilt.
The court of first instance found the man guilty of committing a crime under Part 4 of Art. 186 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (Robbery) The man was sentenced to seven years in prison, but he can appeal within a month.
It will be remembered that in Vinnitsa, the police detained a suspect for stealing holy relics from the temple. It turned out to be a 37-year-old man, who was previously convicted of murder.
