LE FIGARO. – How did FIDH manage to find Yazidi victims and force them to testify?
Clemens BECTARTE. – Since April 2016, FIDH has been involved in documenting these crimes, which were originally intended for the prosecution of the International Criminal Court (ICC). A number of organizations, including Yezidi NGOs, hoped that the ICC would open an investigation into this genocide.
FIDH organized two missions in Iraqi Kurdistan in 2017. During this work we realized that the victims were believed to be French. It became known to us that in December 2016, a preliminary investigation was started in France by the prosecutor’s office in cases of crimes against humanity. And we started to cooperate.
