VENICE
This is certainly the most symbolic of the measures taken to limit overt tourism. Venice will soon introduce a tourist tax for its day visitors. The Serenissima’s purported goal is to limit the number of daily visitors whose comings and goings dilute the bay following a ban on large cruise ships and souvenir shops. The website will allow you to book a visit, and at the entry points to the lagoon, “turnstiles” will be installed to control the arrival of visitors.
