after the recent March which took place last weekend against the government of Pedro Castillo, the movement “Peru Reacts” called for a new mobilization next November 20, date when a high-level group of the Organization of American States (OAS) will arrive in Peru to analyze the political situation in the country.
Following the announcement of the second mobilization against the executive, Lucas Guersi, one of the promoters of the march, denounced the “disproportionate use” of force by the national police during the demonstration last Saturday, 5 November.
“We condemn the disproportionate use of force by the police, condemned by the Ombudsman. There was an attempt not to control the riot, but to disperse the demonstration. And this is an attack on our fundamental right to peaceful assembly,” he said at a press conference held in Hotel Bolivar.
The date of the demonstration coincides with the arrival of a diplomatic delegation composed of the foreign ministers of the five countries and other officials. They are: Santiago Cafierofrom Argentina; Eamon Courtneyfrom Belize; Juan Carlos Holguinfrom Ecuador; Mario Adolfo Bucaro, from Guatemala; D Julio Cesar Arriolafrom Paraguay.
They are also part of the delegation. Laura GilVice Minister for Multilateral Affairs of Colombia; Christian Gillermet, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Costa Rica; D Eladio Loizagaformer Minister of Foreign Affairs of Paraguay and representative of the General Secretariat of the OAS.
According to Foreign Minister Cesar Landa, the OAS mission will arrive on Sunday, November 20, to work over the next two days.
“Received information that the General Secretariat is invited to the Permanent Mission to visit Peru on the dates of 21 and 22 November, arriving on the 20th, with a mission, in accordance with the provisions, to analyze the situation in the country, which was the unanimous mandate of all OAS countries,” — said the minister of foreign affairs in La Rotativa del Aire.
“Because of the proposal, if they arrive on the 20th, they will work on the 21st and 22nd and return on the 23rd. So the agenda of the foreign ministers is quite complicated to agree on this number of days. This will be confirmed tomorrow, according to what we have been told about the decision of this mission, this high-level group,” he added.
