Ministry of Health care (Minsa) reported this Friday that the number of cases of monkeypox in Peru had risen to 2,820, 35 more infections than the previous published report.

According to the agency, cases are spread across 19 regions, with the largest number of cases occurring in the capital of Lima (2189), while other affected areas are also found in the provinces of Lima (34), Callao (190), La Libertad (132). , Arequipa (116), Piura (26) and Lambaeque (24).

Ministry of Health care noted that there are cases of the disease in Ukayali (19), Ica (16), San Martin (14), Cusco (14), Loreto (11), Tacna (10), Ancash (6), Madre de Dios (6), Junin (5), Huanuco (3) ), Cajamarca (2) and Puno (1).

At the moment, 2,500 patients have been discharged, 320 people are still under medical supervision. Minsa in his latest report posted on his social media.

The first batch of vaccine will arrive on October 19th.

Minsa announced that the first batch of monkeypox vaccine, consisting of 5600 doses of the antigen, will arrive in Peru this Wednesday, October 19.

These first vaccines are part of 9,800 doses of the virus vaccine purchased by the government, with a second shipment of 4,200 doses scheduled for November 16 next year.

The institution has indicated that this important batch of vaccines will be applied as a first phase to previously identified vulnerable populations that are at greater risk of severe development of the simian virus.

The vaccines procured by the Peruvian state are called “Jynneos” from the Danish laboratory Bavarian Nordic and consist of a third-generation non-replicating and modified live Ankara vaccinia virus. Minsa indicates in its statement that these doses were found to be safe and effective.

WHO asks not to relax vigilance

World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus stressed a few weeks ago that the numbers of new monkeypox cases at the global level continue to decline, although he warned that “this is not the time to relax or let down our guard.

“Affected countries and communities must continue to work, and health workers continue to need support in their preparation for the diagnosis and treatment of new cases, as well as the prevention of infections,” Tedros said.

The countries with the most cases since the start of the outbreak are the United States (over 21,000), Spain (6,900) and Brazil (6,000).
