Le Figaro. – This Thursday, a national strike is taking place in kindergartens. The requests presented by the staff are: “removal of the decree allowing work in a kindergarten without a diploma or experience”, revaluation of salaries and improvement of working conditions. What do these look like?
Heloise Jr. – At some points, the condition of many kindergartens is similar to what journalist Victor Kastane condemned in nursing homes. The supervision rate is extremely low: one adult for every five children who do not walk and one adult for every eight children who do walk. As in nursing homes, kindergarten professionals often lack human resources. Gestures can be abrupt or done “in a row”, children are in a hurry or are left alone. Many professionals may then fall into a form of violence “by default” of their own accord.
