Parents IE No. 7061 Heroes of San Juanfrom San Juan de Miraflores County (SJM), condemned that almost two months after the end of the school year, their children cannot start face-to-face classes due to delays in infrastructure work on campus.

This situation, they say, is negatively affecting the health of their children, who have developed symptoms of anxiety and stress after almost three years of virtual classes. Parents demand the immediate return of students to school classes.

indefinite delays

The first days of last March, with the beginning of the academic year, the address of the mentioned school told the parents in a statement that the handover was scheduled for the end of June, “the approximate date we will begin moving in and continue classes on our premises.” However, to date this has not happened.

RPP News was able to access official documentation showing that on November 19, 2019, the National Educational Infrastructure Program (Pronied) signed a contract with Construction company ARCSRL for the improvement of the school grounds. The term of its execution was 360 calendar days, and the amount of investments was more than 14 million Singapore dollars.

According to the parents, the work was ready last year, despite delays caused by the pandemic. However, during its delivery, there were remarks that led to the fact that the objects cannot yet be used.

July 18 this year, Pronounced sent a letter to the construction company asking for a “partial acceptance” of the work “to avoid further delaying the start of face-to-face classes for students.” More than two months later, the situation appears to have stalled, affecting hundreds of elementary and high school students.

Parents want to return

On August 8, the parents sent a letter to Ombudsman Eliana Revollar with a request to “intercede” with Pronounced so that the work is completed as soon as possible and the students can return to the classroom.

Francisco Centenoone of the parents demanded a decision from the educational authorities, both from UGEL 01 and from the Ministry of Education (minedu).

“Since June, everything has ended at school, and we were already looking forward to the start. We are already October, and still we have not been given a solution. We want to start classes now because we know that if we don’t do something now, they won’t even start next year,” he said.

In the same time, Rye He expressed his suspicion that the educational authorities and teachers of the institution do not make much effort to support the request of parents, because they will take advantage of virtuality to conduct private classes.

“It looks like there are teachers and directors who don’t want face-to-face classes to start, because in addition to the state salary, they will be teaching in other institutions,” he asked.

It should be noted that since March last year minedu established a return to face-to-face classes in public and private educational institutions throughout the country; therefore, parents turned to government agencies so that their children would not suffer further in their educational development due to extra-curricular problems.
