“Swimming conditions will be particularly dangerouson the Neo-Aquitaine coast, taking into accountthe convergence of different phenomena: swell, onboard waves and strong currents“, the prefecture noted.
The public is invited to attendcareful“and bathe”in controlled areasfrom the four coastal departments: Charente-Maritime, Gironde, Les Landes and Pyrenees-Atlantiques. This device was installed in 2022 to warn of the danger of beins, these innocuous-looking natural pools that form between the beach and the sandbank, but whose currents can quickly move out to sea.
Météo France data and opinions of experts stationed on the coast, such as lifeguards, make it possible to assess the danger of currents every day, the prefecture reminded. This is the third time since the beginning of the year that this device has been deployed on the beaches of Nouvelle-Aquitaine, where bays are responsible for several drownings each year.
