Peru’s College of Nursing Dean Josefa Vazquez Cevallos, Dean of the College of Nursing of Peru, Josefa Vazquez Cevallos, expressed concern about the possibility of nearly 11 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine expiring in the coming months, following a recent warning from the Comptroller General.
“Since the leadership of the College of Nurses obviously we are concerned that… a significant number of vaccines may be past their expiration date; however, we believe because (there is) a story that nurses in the 1980s eradicated various diseases such as polio and measles by vaccinating house after house…” she said.
For this reason, the dean urged the general population to use doses of the vaccine against new coronavirusso that the medicines are not lost.
“I appeal to the entire Peruvian population, parents and teachers who come to get vaccinated because there are vaccines and nurses willing to vaccinate them,” he said.
In this sense, Vásquez Cevallos said that his colleague had requested a meeting with Health Minister Jorge López to propose new vaccination strategies at the national level and to study the situation of nurses hired under the CAS.
“If we don’t increase the first level of assistance, we will not have an increase in vaccination coverage,” he said.
The controller asks Minsa to support the absence of expired vaccines
