Elections 2022: Political organizations will sign the Pact on Electoral Ethics on August 17

Electoral Ethics Pact, promoted by the National Jury for Elections (JNE), will be signed on next August 17 political parties participating in the upcoming regional and municipal elections. By doing so, they undertake to develop an electoral campaign that gives an advantage mutual respect and practice of democratic values.

The ceremony will take place at 11:00 am at the convention center of the Lima Departmental Council, according to JNE. College of Engineers of Peru and It will be streamed live via institutional social media.

The contract signing protocol will include 23 engagements which have been endorsed by political organizations in successive meetings with the JNE that deal with respect honesty voting process, rejection political violence and discrimination; and also to participation of candidates in debates established by the electoral body, among other important aspects.

Among the political organizations involved in the commitment of the Ethical Elections Pact are Acción Popular, Avanza País, Fuerza Popular, Together for Peru, Purple Party, Patriotic Party of Peru, Free Peru National Political Party and Podemos Peru.

Participated in the construction of such obligations 38 civil society organizations, in addition to citizens, through four thematic tables (Honesty and Transparency; Advocacy and Election Campaign; Inclusive Participation; and Debate) in which they asked for a non-aggressive campaign, prioritizing proposals and political participation historically excluded peopleamong other activities.

Ten sessions developed by public organizations were led by JNE supported by specialists and institutional allies such as International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA) and Civil Association “Transparency”.

Thus, it is intended to preserve the democratic principles of respect in the electoral process without violence or attacks between political organizations, candidates and candidates, and to guarantee transparency in information, clarity of proposals, broad participation in debate and non-discrimination.
