In July 1965, the first images of Mars by NASA’s Mariner 4 probe finally ended the decades-long controversy. Line structures observed by many astronomers since the end of the 19th centurye century, still represented on the maps NASA used to prepare the mission, were for some evidence of the existence of an advanced extraterrestrial civilization.
