From French fries to a garbage truck. This is the short circuit that the community of the agglomeration of Bethune-Brois is slowly putting in place. Since September 2021, almost everywhere in this part of the Pas-de-Calais (100 municipalities, 280,000 inhabitants) has recovered frying oil to turn into biofuel, which then supplies the trucks responsible for waste collection.
“The oils are filtered and water and all impurities are removed using a 100% ecological process.“, explains Michel Millares, president of Gecco, the Nordic company that produces the fuel.
So far, only two of the city’s 78 garbage trucks, whose engine filters have been changed, run on this biodiesel called B-100. 11,000 liters were consumed in 2021, and more than 15,000 liters since the beginning of the year.
