It took barely more than a month for the dispute to resume. Despite the ban on wearing a burkini in municipal swimming pools in Grenoble (Isère) approved by the Council of State on June 21, a new “burkini operation” took place last Thursday at the Jean Brun swimming pool. That day, a group of six women, who will respond to the call of the Civic Alliance Association, arising from demands for the wearing of burkinis in municipal swimming pools, present themselves to enter the pool. Two of them were denied entry, their swimsuits, cover-ups and cover-ups deemed non-compliant. Four more were authorized to swim after pool agents checked the gear with the municipality. One was “topless” and three wore clothing covering their arms and legs.
Deliberate violation of the decision of the State Council was considered scandalous by the elected oppositionist Alain Carignon.
