Anthony, a physics and chemistry professor at a Paris college, wanted to give his 8-month-old baby to his family in Martinique this summer. He applied for a date in February to get her a passport, found one in May and planned to leave in July. But the passport never arrived, and after deciding to postpone their trip for the first time for a few hundred euros, the forty-year-olds abandoned their family holiday. Like Anthony, this summer, many French people will have to forego travel due to lack of passports arriving in time.
And for good reason, 115,000 new passport applications are filed every week, a 30% increase over 2019.
