National Superintendent migrationJorge Fernandez, attributed the long queues outside the Breña headquarters, registered since dawn, to be an excellent welcome that had to be given to people waiting for their passports to be issued, in addition to emergencies due to traveling on certain dates nearby.
“We opened the attention for travelers from 25 to 31 July on National holidays at our headquarters. In this regard, two days ago we made a call on business and, apparently, all those leaving yesterday and today arrived. It can be seen that this coincided with the planned appointments, but we are on duty 24 hours,” he said.
“Yesterday we examined more than 3,000 passports. In total, we estimate that we issued almost 4,000 yesterday, and we ask those who traveled to accept the forecasts on the case, but in the face of this situation, many came on the first day, and today it should return to normal,” he added.
The official tried to justify the mess that reigned in the queues by claiming that it happened when the employees migration introduced people who were entitled to preferential care. Likewise, he asked to be understood that “those who have waited months for their appointment need privileged attention than those who leave for national holidays.”
“These queues that exist for travel between 25 and 31 July are also due to the foresight of citizens to avoid these inconveniences at the airport (…) Today we are visiting people who have paid for 2018. by 2021, more than 120,000 people who were not taken care of, who have been waiting for years to be examined,” he said.
For this reason, the owner migration asked the public to understand that, in addition to the attention paid to the group, which paid attention between 2018 and 2021, there is an “over-demand” being created these days because people who plan to travel on National holidays “so that they don’t have the inconveniences of the past.”
“Our stores are located in municipalities or MAC centers that respect the opening hours set by the malls or municipalities. These stores also serve the people they serve within 24-48 hours. Any action can be improved, and I say that there are things that need to be improved, it’s not that I don’t recognize,” he said.
“Between 2018 and 2021, 120,000 people were left unattended in the system. Today, all the people who pay for 2022 make an appointment in the morning and come on the same day (…) We opened for travel on national holidays and there was definitely an excessive demand that we are correcting at the moment,” he added .
The legislator said that economic interests are behind the project, approved at the insistence of the plenary session of the parliament. On the other hand, MP Alex Paredes of the ruling Magisterial Bloc justified his group’s support for the project’s persistence despite the government’s compliance with the law.
