A real trend, which has been observed for several years, is the increase in knife attacks in France. The use of this rudimentary weapon is now taking place outside of any terrorist context, having been encouraged by the Islamic State to carry out attacks and trigger terror in the stabbing death of teacher Samuel Paty two years ago in Conflans-Saint-Honorin (Yvelin).
“For several years we have seen an explosion of this type of attack affecting even medium-sized cities that have been spared until now.”, notes M. Thibaut de Montbrial, president of the Center for Homeland Security Think Tank. According to him, people are now taking out the knife for more and more minor problems. “They don’t necessarily seek to kill, but the possibility of another’s death is completely indifferent to them.
