Except for the still standing walls, the house without windows is destroyed. But at the foot of the steps leading to the entrance, a shady and discreet garden offers a peaceful respite when the bombs aren’t whistling. A small glass coffee table, curiously fitting, is lined with a rocking chair abandoned by the owner, tea bags and a box of chocolates, next to a walkie-talkie. If one sits on the sofa facing the landing of the house, the Russian forces are on the left, about two kilometers away. Here is the shelter that has been hosting Termite, Tourist, Kara, Podvor (Backyard) and Oksotnik (Hunter) for a few weeks now. These five officers of the Ukrainian army form a detachment on the southern front line, not far from Mykolaiv, in the village of Pribugskoe.
