Good news for owners of Labradors, German Shepherds or Bernese Mountain Dogs. A few days before the start of the summer holidays, SNCF has just announced that it is reviewing its sales policy for dog owners.
Until now, masters traveling with animals weighing more than six kilograms had to pay “a ticket equivalent to 50% of the full price of the second seat, calculated on the basis of the mileage scale”. This led to inconsistency. on some routes, if the traveler took advantage of a certain offer, the dog paid more than its owner. The most absurd situation is when it is said that the “dog ticket” does not provide a reserved seat on the train. And that SNCF makes it clear that the presence of animals on board is only “tolerable” and therefore subject to the “consent of other passengers”…
Unable to return to this double mismatch, the company simply took a step forward in terms of pricing. Now the rule will be the same for all dogs, big or small. Now everyone will benefit from a fixed €7 ticket regardless of direction. Another advance payment. these tickets, which until now were only distributed in paper form, will be available in electronic ticket format in the SNCF Connect app. So no more having to go through the terminal to print them out.
However, caution is required to avoid obstacles as the big departures approach. We cannot strongly advise you to book the first lesson. the “dog rate” will be the same and you will have more space. Also, remember to choose your seat so you’re not cramped in the plaza at the mercy of neighbors who aren’t necessarily kind to animals.
