SCM businesses have lost approximately $ 20 billion in assets due to the Russian invasion and are seeking compensation.
Ukrainian businessman Rinat Akhmetov has filed a lawsuit against Russia in the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), the SCM press service reported on Monday, June 27th.
“Russia’s crimes against Ukraine and every Ukrainian are horrible. Those responsible must be punished. I – with the help of the best Ukrainian and American lawyers – have filed a complaint with the European Court of Human Rights for This lawsuit is one of the first international legal action against Russia, its purpose is to stop the criminal activity of the Russian aggressor, the destruction of the economy of Ukraine and the plunder of property of Ukraine, ”Akhmetov said.
He asked the ECHR to hold the aggressor country accountable for the destruction of Ukrainian infrastructure, theft and theft of export goods. Akhmetov’s interests are represented by the international law firm Covington & Burling LLP.
In addition to the lawsuit, the businessman asked the court to take urgent interim measures that would prevent further blockage of Ukrainian ports, theft, theft of grain, as well as steel produced by SCM businesses.
“The theft of Ukrainian export goods – including grain and steel – has already led to rising prices of these goods and increasing the number of people dying of hunger in the world. This barbarism must stop, and Russia must pay in full. I believe in justice and he is fighting for it, “Akhmetov said, urging other businessmen who have suffered Russia’s aggression to apply to the ECHR.
Earlier, Akhmetov said that as a result of Russia’s attack on Ukraine, SCM’s businesses have lost approximately $ 20 billion in assets, and the company will seek compensation from the Russian Federation for all losses.
