After the statements of the President of the Council of Operators of the “Purple Corridor” Gerardo Hermosa in connection with the suspension of the provision of services, the Director of Operations Lima and Callao Urban Transport Authority (YOU) David Hernandez clarified that vehicles will continue to move as normal after 1st of May.

In conversation with RPP Noticias, the representative YOU explained that his institution was holding meetings with the Board of Operators from this Monday 24 Aprilso they managed to agree, and the service will not stop working.

“There is no suspension. Operators have requested this collaboration to combat informality and we are working on this with PNP. There will be no suspension from May 1 if there is joint work with operators. The Purple Corridor meeting has been taking place since Monday, so we already have an established agenda with ongoing work,” Hernandez said.

Informality associated with crime

In addition, Operations Director YOU He said that the informality currently seen on the roads of Corredor del Morado is not the same as in the past. At the same time, he stressed that crime has increased along transport routes.

“Informality has grown, not the same as before. It used to be a man who could lose his job and tried to invest his money in a car. Today we have killers, theft, crime and collection of quotas. Today’s informality is the insecurity of citizens. Thanks to PNP We are fighting this,” he said.

yellow corridor

David Hernandez also mentioned yellow corridor, which has ceased operations as of this Monday, April 24th. On this occasion, the representative YOU He clarified that the problems of this and the Purple Corridor are different. In the case of the latter, the disadvantages lie in the robustness of the service.

“The institution provides sustainability. The yellow corridor is a different situation. Recall that in Panamericana North, South and Via Evitamiento we have the largest transport companies. There is El Rápido, Los Chinos, etc., it was an incomplete broker and the problems were of a different nature… They said that in order to continue they need to raise the rate and this will not be positive for the user. (For this reason) a mutual agreement was reached not to affect the passerby,” he concluded.

They guarantee the maintenance of the Purple Corridor

A few hours later the corridor concessionaires Violet They said they would guarantee continuity of service on May 1st. They also claimed to have received a message from Lima and Callao Urban Transport Authority (ATP) hold a workshop on next Wednesday May 3 “seek a comprehensive and effective solution to the economic and operational problems of the corridor Violet”.

Corridor concession companies Violet They hope to “jointly find a solution that will contribute to the creation of a truly formal, efficient and self-sufficient transport system for the benefit of the thousands of users” using this transport service.
