Agency for Environmental Assessment and Enforcement (OEFA) warned of a new presence of hydrocarbons in the area of the Multiboyas 2 terminal La Pampilla Refinery SAA, in the district of Ventanilla, constitutional province of Callao, affecting the surface sea waters on an area of about 300 square meters.
An organization affiliated with the Ministry of the Environment said that a supervisory team was in the area today to verify compliance with the measures taken by Repsol to clean up and contain the hydrocarbon spill as a result of the environmental emergency that occurred in January 2022.
“Having identified this find, the technical team OEFA demanded that immediately and without delay Repsol Company report what has happened and report on the actions and measures taken in its environmental management tools (IGA) to avoid, minimize or restore impacts on the marine ecosystem and to verify the causes of the environmental emergency.” in a statement.
The government body has expressed its commitment to ensure the quality of the environment and ecosystems through a permanent presence on the ground to verify the actions carried out by the company.
Issued Measures
To date, OEFA has ordered 20 preventive measures aimed at, among others, the treatment, containment, monitoring and management of solid waste; verification of non-compliance with 7 of them. So he ordered Repsol payment of compulsory fines of 620 UIT (2.8 million soles, paid to date).
In addition, he provided 3 specific mandates to present a Remediation Plan (PDR) for areas affected by the oil spill. He also ordered the issuance of 2 mandates of a special nature to update and / or change the IGA in relation to the area of u200bu200bdirect and indirect influence of operations at sea La Pampilla Refinery; and for the presentation of the Public Relations Plan.
