One person was killed, three were missing and thirteen houses were destroyed – these are the losses left by a landslide from the hill of La Quebrada in the city of Perla Chaupis, in the district of Atavillos Bajo, in the province of Huaral.
talking to RPP NewsAtavillos Bajo Mayor Carlos Salvador Ayala specified that the deceased was identified as Iris Poma.
Salvador Ayala stated that it was likely three missing buried among debrisfor this reason, he requested the intervention of the central government to send the machines.
“The hill at the top collapsed and destroyed 13 houses, of which four bodies were buried. One has been rescued and the rest are missing. […]. This is a tragic moment that we are living,” he said.
The burgomaster explained that a heavy downpour caused the ravine to activate, which around 10:00 this Thursday led to the hill sliding. An avalanche of earth fell on the mentioned settlement and, in addition, buried the secondary school.
The more 70 students from the educational institution heard the sound of the hill in time and were able to evacuate, as specified Salvador Ayalawho said that the tragedy could have been more.
“There is a school in the upper part of the city, but behind it is a skirt, and the one that slipped off and closed the school. The students were able to evacuate because of the sound and everything else,” he said.
