This Saturday, employees of the municipality of Rimac began work to clean up the hill of San Cristobal after tons garbage in connection with the pilgrimage of believers on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday.

Hundreds of people climbed the highest part of the hill from early morning and throughout the day on Good Thursday and Good Friday.

RPP News managed to check a large number garbage (mostly plastic and glass bottles) along the path leading to the La Cruz viewpoint.

“We collected 10 tons of garbage”

in dialogue with RPP News, Miguel Aguilar Diazmanager of the education department of culture and tourism of the municipality of St. Rimac, provided details of the collection operation garbage after registration, there are twice as many visits as in 2022.

“We have given immediate action since seven in the morning today, we have appointed a total of 50 people, between cleaning and checking and the safety of citizens, and everyone is cooperating on the issue of garbage collection. Here the problem is that it overflowed here because there were approximately 50,000 visitors expected, and we had 90,000 to 100,000, which is twice as many as planned, so a large amount of solid waste was generated, today alone we collected 10 tons garbage”, said.

It is worth noting that during Good Thursday and Good Friday, garbage collection could not be carried out, as the number of visitors prevented the trucks from entering.
