The representative of the National Program for the Prevention and Eradication of Violence Against Women and Family Members (Aurora) of the Ministry of Women and Vulnerable Groups (MIMP), Patricia Garrido Rengifo, assured that the attackers of the 11-year-old girl in the province of Atalaya, Ucayali region, they had an “intention” to commit the murder of a woman.
In an interview program Air Rotary RPP Patricia Garrido described as “regrettable and reprehensible” the attack on a minor who allegedly tried to defend herself from rape in a city in Ukayali.
“We attended the trial with our team of professionals based in the region Ukayali, in the province of Atalaya. They found a girl with this whole medical situation, with nails that these people intended to commit femicide, finally, their intention to kill her, from which she was defending herself, ”he explained.
Patricia Garrido claimed to have agreed with the health sector on the transfer of the girl from Ukayali to Lima for treatment at the Children’s Health Institute in Sant Borj.
“We have a team ready to accompany, in this case a parent to give her all the support, she also receives care in the same children’s hospital in São Borja where psychological support is provided (…) We have not done only psychological and legal but also social, which allowed us to take steps through EsSalud to learn about the progress of the transition for the specialized care she needs,” she said.
Lines of intervention
In addition, Patricia Garrido explained that National Aurora Program has two main areas of work with complaints of violence against women.
“One of them is a preventive line, with all actions through work with the community, with the media, through various campaigns, with the educational community, and also through work with attention through our various services,” he explained.
Patricia Garrido clarified that the 100 line of the Aurora program provides advice to people who consider themselves victims of violence and those who know about the use of violence, with special psychological and legal attention.
“Maximum punishment for the guilty”
For its part, the Ombudsman, Eliana Revollarconfirmed that an 11-year-old girl who was attacked for resisting an alleged rape is still in intensive care at the San Borja Child Health Institute with a reserved prognosis.
“We hope that she recovers, this is a picture that has outraged and alarmed the entire service, because they point out that after seeing similar cases of sexual abuse or illness in children, they never saw how they could attack a minor. with such cruelty. Let’s hope he recovers,” he said.
Eliana Revollar warned that the attack on the girl was drawing attention because little was being done in the country to protect or guarantee the rights of children, adolescents and women.
“As a society and as a state, we have reached the bottom. These cases cannot be normalized. We will demand the maximum punishment for those responsible, we are working on it. I consider it important to note that the healthcare system in this case acted promptly from the place where the events took place, and this is good to note,” he said.
“We need political will”
The Ombudsman urged the justice system, “which has already issued three days of pre-trial detention to one of the persons (involved in the attack) in Atalaya”, to continue all necessary steps.
“The director of the hospital (de Satipo) told us that she contacted the prosecutor’s office to give details, and these are cases in which we sincerely need a much more objective answer, quick justice, in order to avoid impunity, but also to prevent violence against women and girls has not become the norm,” he said.
Similarly, Eliana Revollar demanded a “much clearer response” from the executive to violence against women. In addition, he launched a great crusade from the state to change a culture in which “women are debased, mistreated and raped.”
“This incident came after 39 femicides in Peru this year. The most tragic case of Katherine (Gomez), who was burned with great cruelty. The man is still on the run, justice has been very slow in pursuing him. Thus, we have many cases where women become victims. We need public policy, we need a budget, we need political will, we need punishment, but also a policy of prevention so that women and girls are respected in this country,” she said.
