The government declared a state of emergency this Sunday 18 districts of Lima and four Callaos due to the intense rain that cyclone Yaku registers. The event will last about 60 calendar days for the implementation of preventive measures and actions.
In this situation, according to Supreme Decree No. 035-2023-PKM, emergency, urgent and necessary measures and actions will be taken to reduce the existing very high risk, as well as appropriate response and rehabilitation. This is due to the fact that the areas that have been selected are in immediate danger or the occurrence of a natural disaster.
The state of emergency also applies to certain areas of the city. Ancash, Apurimac, Arequipa, Ayacucho, Cusco, Huancavelica, Huanuco, Ica, Junin, Moquegua, Puno and Tacna. Also executive power explained that the implementation of the activities provided for by this Supreme Decree is financed from the institutional budget of the relevant documents, without requiring additional funds from the State Treasury.
In total, a state of emergency will be introduced in 335 districts from 14 regions, where preventive measures will be taken in connection with the rains that have occurred in recent weeks.
Prime Minister Alberto Otarola announced that heavy rains will be recorded in Lima on Tuesday, March 14, according to what the specialized agencies told the executive about this.
