The mayor of Lurigancho-Chosika is asking for the number of geodynamic grids to be increased to 25 to help contain landslides.

Lurigancho-Chosika District Mayor Osvaldo Vargas said on Thursday that his jurisdiction has been prepared since 2016 with geodynamic grids ahead of possible rains and landslides, but acknowledged that a “great retaining wall” was still required in Carapongo, as well as in the Huaikoloro region.

“We have been preparing since 2016, after the event in 2015 when we asked the Ministry of Agriculture and ANA to install 22 geodynamic grids in nine ravines and this is a very good decision partly because these geodynamic grids allowed no deaths in 2017, because five people died in 2015,” he said in an interview News extension.

Oswaldo Vargas said Peru’s National Meteorological and Hydrological Service (Senamhi) had warned that his area would experience heavy rains in March and through the end of this month, which could harm the population.

“In terms of precipitation intensity, it reached close to the 4th degree, on the 18th, when it became more complicated and ravines became more active, and not deep ones in the area of ​​the river. Chosika, but they activated karvavas, due to which stairs, streets and avenues began to fill with water and mud. It made life difficult for many people,” he said.

For this reason, Osvaldo Vargas reported that he had asked the National Water Resources Authority (ANA) to strengthen 22 geodynamic grids existing and asked to increase their number to 25.

“ANA made a report on 22 geodynamic gridsin this report they indicate that they are serviceable, active, and I have checked that they are cleared and serviceable (…) according to the engineering works, they state that these works can receive up to three or four additional events if they can happen ” , – he said.
