National police detain at least 10 people after clashes

National Police reported that at least 10 people were detained after clashes that took place on Cercado de Lima as part of protests against the government Dina Boluarte and Congress.

The men were reportedly taken to the Cotabambas police station, located in the center of the city. This happened shortly after the police regained control of Abankai Avenue.

This afternoon, members of the National Police dispersed a group of vandals who arrived at the intersection of Nicolás de Pierola and Abancay Avenues.

There was a confrontation at this intersection for more than an hour. The demonstrators threw stones and blunt objects. However, the police managed to disperse them and push them back with tear gas canisters.

These confrontations take place on a new day of mobilization against the government of Dina Boluarte and the Congress, which began on January 19 in the capital.

Protests and demonstrations against the executive power these days were concentrated in lima fence.

The demonstrators demand the resignation of President Dina Boluarte, as well as the departure of congressmen and the appointment of a general election.

The last-day protests in the capital come after weeks of demonstrations in various regions of the country, starting from the second week of December 2022.

So far, the death toll in this social crisis in the country is 57 people.
