Pedro Gálvez, president of the Chamber of Business Roundtable, said on Monday that sales in the area had fallen by about 80%. The main reason for this is related to the protests that are taking place in the capital against government of Dina Boluarte.

“As of 4 p.m., when the marches start, they have to be closed because there are no more people. What do we get by opening enterprises if there are no customers? We typically bill between $15 million and $20 million a day. and now we’re 4.5 right now, maybe only 6 million. Places where there are conflicts, where the police block different streets, they don’t come to Mesa Redonda,” he told RPP Noticias.

The businessman also regretted that with these demonstrations against the President Dina Boluarte sales suffered during the summer campaign and possibly the school season if they protests they don’t end.

For her part, Susana Saldanha, president of the Gamarra Peruvian Business Association, believes that there are “political instigators” who will use the needs of the population for personal gain.

“Here we see the political use of the need and the legitimate demands of many people, and they use and encourage because they are campaigning (…) This is what you have to talk to people, you have to tell them the truth,” he said.

“What is happening in the country is getting our attention and I think we should not get caught up in the game of creating new differences among Peruvians. I believe that we are all called to say “enough” and, rather, to say “what?” we do to unite to move the country forward,” he said.

Protests in the Cercado de Lima

Groups of protesters march this Monday afternoon through the various streets of Sercado on a new day of mobilization against the government. They demand the resignation of Dina Boluarte and the promotion of general elections for this year.

These people are occupying Alfonso Ugarte Avenue in the direction of Piazza Bolognesi, following a route similar to the one they have been following for the past two days. This is the largest group of protesters and they are escorted by National Police patrol cars.

However, the military prevented the protesters from moving towards 9 December Avenue and used tear gas canisters to disperse them. Faced with this situation, the Protestants retreated to Avenida España.

Meanwhile, another group of protesters with flags and posters with slogans against the executive and legislative authorities is concentrating in Plaza dos de Mayo. The National Police is monitoring the situation until the possible arrival of protesters on Abankay Avenue.
