Russian experts have not identified any technical problems preventing the extension of the life of the Russian segment of the ISS after 2024.
Roscosmos has submitted an official application to continue work on the International Space Station (ISS) until 2028. This was stated by the head of the state corporation Yuri Borisov in an interview, Interfax reports on Wednesday, December 21.
“Now we have permission to work on the ISS until 2024 inclusive. And we have already applied for continuation until 2028,” said Borisov.
Earlier, the Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov said that Russia considers it possible to extend the operation of the ISS until 2028. According to him, specialists from Energia Rocket and Space Corporation has not identified technical problems that prevent the extension of the life of the Russian segment of the ISS after 2024.
Earlier, the same Yuri Borisov announced Russia’s intention to leave the ISS after 2024, but the exact date was not called. Also in Russia, an avalanche of breakdowns in the ISS is predicted after 2025.
And the scientific and technical council of Roscosmos even decided to build a new orbital space station to replace the ISS.
