Scientists have identified a new danger of tobacco smoke

Tobacco smoke absorbed by clothing can cause various skin diseases.

Exposure to smoking negatively affects the lungs and other internal organs. At the same time, scientists have proven that it also affects the skin. This was reported by the Lancet.

Specifically, the experts selected ten healthy non-smokers, aged 22 to 45, and asked them to wear clothes soaked in tobacco smoke for three hours. They were also instructed to spend 15 minutes on a treadmill so that the tobacco smoke entered the body through the skin.

After taking blood and urine samples, the team found that biomarkers indicating oxidative DNA damage were elevated, and changes in blood protein levels were detected.

“Our clothing exposure experiment did not cause skin irritation, but markers associated with early activation of contact dermatitis, psoriasis, and other skin conditions were elevated,” said the author. of study Shane Sakamaki-Ching.

Researchers have previously reported that feeling depressed or lonely can make you age faster than smoking.
