Billionaire Elon Musk will announce massive layoffs on Twitter on Friday, one of the first steps in a major overhaul of the company he recently acquired.
Twitter employees based in San Franciscoreceived an email on Thursday a day in advance that they would receive a notification before Friday noon informing them whether they would continue to work for the company, US media reported.
“In an effort to keep the company on the path to prosperity, we will go through a difficult process of reducing our workforce,” according to an email received by employees of a technology company bought by Musk for $44 million.
The message also informed employees that, for security reasons, offices would be “temporarily closed” and employees would not have access to the facilities.
cut plan
Meanwhile, the British newspaper Financial Timessaid Musk plans to cut about 3,700 jobs at the company.
The employer also intends to introduce face-to-face office work requirements from Monday, which will reverse current policy, the FT said. Twitterallowing employees to work from anywhere.
The South African tycoon overhauled the internet giant’s management team late last week, firing executives including Twitter chief Parag Agrawal and hiring a small group of trusted advisers, including his personal lawyer, Alex Spiro.
With this measure, the tycoon prepared to eliminate the company’s 9-member board of directors and leave it alone with all decision-making powers in the course of the social network.
Now, after the heads filter, Elon Musk prepares to start laying off employees. It is not known what argument will decide between each of them, but, for his new boss, “a lot of people manage the programming for each person.”
Musk’s lack of sympathy could also be a reason, says Financial Times. The drive to work from home could also be another reason, as Musk doesn’t like this measure at other companies like Tesla.
internal pressure
Work inside Twitter radicalized in the last few hours, especially because Elon Musk wants changes to be made in a very short time frame of days.
The most talked about feature is the verified account subscription service, which will cost $8 per month. For this reason, workers work hard to achieve the goal, although many of them have to sleep in their own offices to save time.
Musk also asked engineers and managers to create a kind of classification that depended on the contribution to the company’s code. Twitter during their employment with the company.
