Scientists from Sinogene Biotechnology in China announced cloning successfully from arctic wolf in the country.
news, reports Global Timesshows birth Mayansmall creature belonging to the family Canis lupus arctos.
first in the world
Mayan was cloned using DNA collected from arctic wolf adult who died in captivity at Harbin Polarland, a wildlife park in the northeast China.
Mayan an original that was born in Canada before it was sent to China in 2006 he died due to advanced age.
cloning was successfully completed “after two years of strenuous efforts,” said Mi Jidong, general manager of Sinogene, at the company’s press conference. They showed a video of a young creature that is already 100 days old. It is currently in very good condition.
For this, scientists initially created 137 embryos. arctic wolf fusion of skin cells from the original sample with immature dog eggs. Of these embryos, 85 were successfully transferred to seven surrogate beagles. Of the transplanted embryos, only one fully developed during pregnancy: Mayan.
The researchers used beagle surrogates because there were not enough female wolves in captivity for the scientists’ experiments. Luckily, dogs share enough DNA with wolves for a successful hybrid pregnancy.
live together
Mayan now lives with her surrogate mother at the Xuzhou Synogenic Laboratory, east of Chinabut eventually the wolf cub will be transferred to Harbin Polarland to live with others arctic wolves. However, the park rangers feel that she will have to be gradually introduced to the rest of the pack due to her isolated upbringing.
Sinogene also revealed that the second clone arctic wolf, Created using the DNA of an unknown male, she was due to be born on Thursday, September 22nd. However, there have been no confirmed reports of the birth of a cub so far.
The Institute specializes in cloning dead pets such as dogs and cats for private clients. But this time he is using his experience to work on endangered species conservation projects. Though it’s true arctic wolves are not at risk, climate change is likely to disrupt their food supply for decades to come.
