A student from Ukraine, passionate about raising awareness and addressing the global landmine problem, Igor Klymenko is the recipient of the 2022 Chegg.org Global Student Award. He developed the Quadcopter Mine Detector, according to the award’s website.
Klimenko studied physical and mathematical sciences at the Kiev Polytechnic Institute. When the war broke out in Ukraine, he realized that he wanted to help his country. The man decided to apply his knowledge to the development of demining robots. For the past two years, Klimenko has been actively working on his latest development, the Quadcopter Mines Detector, which he has successfully demonstrated at many competitions and exhibitions. So he became a finalist of the X Festival of Innovative Projects Sikorsky Challenge 2021: Ukraine and the World.
In addition, Igor received a gold medal in the junior category at the 21st Malaysian Technology Exhibition (MTE) 2022. This award is particularly meaningful to him, as it allowed him to successfully present his research to the world.
“Igor has developed two working prototypes of his device and is now working with investors and various organizations to quickly implement them in practice to help reduce the number of victims of explosive devices and start reconstruction of Ukraine. He has received two official Ukrainian patents for his device and is working with the media, to raise awareness among the many military and civilians eager to use it immediately. Igor is currently participating in the UF Startup School Beginner 2022 business incubator and plans to sign a cooperation agreement with this organization in the near future.
The student is engaged in volunteering, delivering food for military and needy Ukrainians related to the Russian war.
“Igor has plans to introduce his device and start mass production, so if he wins the Global Student Award, he plans to use the funds to attract more companies and organizations to invest in the finished product and launch it soon soon,” – said the message.
