Experts believe that a person died more than eight thousand years ago, because then the sea level rose and flooded the caves.
In Mexico, archaeologists found the skeleton of a prehistoric man in a cave that was flooded at the end of the last ice age. NBC News reported it.
In particular, experts Octavio del Río and his colleague Peter Broger found a broken skull and skeleton in a cave near where the Mexican government plans to build a high-speed tourist train in the forest.
According to scientists, the human remains are at a depth of about eight meters, because of the distance from the entrance to the cave, the skeleton could not get there without modern diving equipment, so it must be more than eight thousand years old, that’s when rising sea levels flooded the caves.
“We don’t know if the body was placed there, or if the person died there. More research needs to be done to interpret the find correctly,” said Del Rio.
It was previously reported that in Mexico, during the construction of the railway near Cancun, a large archaeological site was discovered, including more than 300 buildings.
