The cost of the medicine is about six dollars. Experts hope to eliminate the infection in this way.

British scientists have developed a new malaria vaccine that they believe could reduce deaths by 70% by 2030. The world’s largest vaccine manufacturer, the Serum Institute of India, has agreed to produce 200 million doses of the drug in a year, writes Sky News.

Researchers made the prediction after clinical trials in Africa showed that a vaccine called R21/Matrix-M was highly effective in protecting children, who carry the severe mosquito-borne disease.

The results will be presented to the World Health Organization later this month.

“This is really exciting. People have been trying to make malaria vaccines for more than a century. About 140 different malaria vaccines have gone into service. We think the data that it is the best of all malaria vaccines,” said Prof Adrian Hill, director of the Jenner Institute at Oxford University. said the university led the study.

More than 40 million children are known to live in areas in sub-Saharan Africa with high or moderate levels of malaria transmission. Every 75 seconds, a child under the age of five dies from the disease, despite the use of bed nets, preventive medicine and insecticide sprays.

In the new trial, researchers gave three doses four weeks apart, with a booster 12 months later, to 409 young children in Burkina Faso. The results after one year showed that he was able to prevent 80% of malaria cases. GlaxoSmithKline’s only alternative malaria vaccine is 44% effective at one year, researchers say.

“With the right investment – especially with the continued support of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria at the upcoming replenishment conference later this month – we can reverse recent trends and continue on the path to eliminating malaria. If without this investment, we risk losing the gains of the past decades and witnessing an increase in malaria,” experts said.

Recall that at the beginning of this year, a case of malaria was recorded in Kharkiv. The disease was detected in a student from the Republic of Congo during a medical examination.
