MOXIE will effectively convert the Martian atmosphere into pure oxygen. To do this, the Martian air first passes through a filter that cleans it of contaminants.
NASA’s Perseverance rover converts carbon dioxide into oxygen on Mars, an essential ingredient for life on the Red Planet. The Daily Mail reported this.
A new study shows that the MOXIE instrument is capable of producing oxygen in different atmospheric conditions – including day and night – and in different Martian seasons.
In each of the seven experimental runs, the device achieved its goal of producing six grams of oxygen per hour. Researchers suggest that an increase in the number of such devices will be capable of creating thousands of times more oxygen, which will make it possible to provide people with the necessary chemical element for life.
“The MOXIE instrument is the first demonstration that it is possible to use the resources of another planet in the area and make them useful for humans,” said Jeffrey Hoffman of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA.
It was previously reported that James Webb took a picture of the Wolf-Ryet star, which is located at a distance of about 5600 light-years from us.
