Analysis of sediment cores taken from these mounds showed that they were built in layers, the oldest of which contained ashes from burnt reeds and reed plants. There, researchers found microscopic fragments of charred mammalian bones called osteons.
“The layers of reed phytoliths, which contain a small amount of osteons, indicate a very hot fire. It is difficult to cook food at such a temperature, so we probably believe that they served a ritual role, for example, for different ceremonies or cremations,” experts added.
“Mound A and Mound B, were collected by ancient indigenous cultures. According to the researchers, the structures were aligned to a point on the horizon.
