A little hot in the Netherlands. Temperatures across the country flared after a study was released showing that water consumption at a Microsoft data center increased due to heat peaks last year. Does this mean that these “data centers” are incompatible with the new climatic conditions? The issue is troubling as digital technology has invaded every aspect of business and consumer life. Today, it is impossible to do without cloud services and their accompanying infrastructure.
Data center operators didn’t wait for recent heat waves to solve the problem. “Twenty years ago data centers were designed to withstand temperatures up to 32 degrees, then ten years ago 35-38 degrees.
