A former Twitter executive claims the company “sniffed” Musk about the fake accounts

Could this be the beginning?Twitter files“? Former Twitter boss Peter Zatko has just denounced the social network’s many bad practices. In an 80-page document filed with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in July, the former director of computer security points to dozens of “scamsmade in recent years. The full complaint is available on the Washington Post website.

Among the most serious accusations of Peter Zatko, he assures that Twitter violated the agreement with the American Competition Authority (FTC). The commitment made in 2011 mainly concerns the security of Twitter and its users. However, according to him, half of the company’s servers are running on outdated software. Therefore, they are very vulnerable to hackers.

The fake accounts hypothesis was confirmed

The whistleblower also blames Twitter and its CEO Parag Agrawalto lieElon Musk on the number of fake accounts active on the platform. An element that forced the billionaire to withdraw his offer to buy from the social network.

In a May 16 post, Parag Agrawal explained that it is his company’s policy to identify and then suspend fake accounts. He implied that these “bots” represents less than 5% of the 450 million monthly active users. “This tweet was a lie. In fact, Agrawal is well aware that Twitter executives have no incentive to accurately detect or report spambots.“, the announcer explains. For him, the blue bird voluntarily avoids counting millions of accounts in order not to scare advertising agencies.

The former director of security, therefore, confirms Elon Musk’s words with his statements. The future of the Twitter takeover will be discussed in the US courts on October 17. The head of Tesla has not yet responded to these findings.

In a press release, Twitter strongly disputes the claims of its former employee, who was fired as “ineffective”. The complaint is, according to them.full of inconsistencies and inaccuracies“. The Company ensures that the security of its systems and user data is a priority.
