Over the course of several days, a series of explosions occurred on the Sun, triggering the appearance of geomagnetic storms on Earth.
A series of flares of various powers appeared on the Sun, as a result of which a huge stream of billions of tons of plasma escaped into space. He rushed to Earth and scientists expect him to reach our planet on Thursday, August 18, causing a geomagnetic storm, reports the Daily Mail.
It is noted that it threatens to interfere with the operation of radio communications and GPS systems.
Scientists from the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration recorded the appearance of an M5-class flare on the Sun from an area called AR3078. As a result, the second large stream of solar particles in a few days hit Earth.
Also, experts recorded the occurrence of four class M flares and 13 class C flares on the Sun. The stream from them is likely to fall on Earth on Friday, August 19.
Scientists predict in the near future another series of explosions will appear on the Sun, and these will be very powerful flares. According to forecasts, these are likely to be M-class flares, although there is a possibility of the strongest X-class flares possible on the Sun.
In addition, experts predict that solar activity will increase. The Sun gradually approaches the peak phase of this activity during its 11-year solar cycle. Scientists are expected to record most of the most powerful explosions on the Sun by the end of 2024.
Remember that last year the largest magnetic storm was recorded on planet Earth. The natural phenomenon is considered the biggest since 2019.
