The consequence of the event is the formation of a bright gutter over the star – the lengthy “burning canyon” more than 400 thousand kilometers long. For comparison, it is about the same distance from the ground to the moon.
The explosion recorded the Solar Dynamics Observatory, Space reports. The event occurred as a result of the filament explosion – a dense loop related to cold gas, held above the sun surface with magnetic loops. From the outside, such structures look like dark threads, but during the explosion they become a bright arch noticeable in the ultraviolet spectrum.
As a result of the explosion, there was a release of coronal mass (CME) – a strong stream of solar plasma, which could affect the magnetic field of the soil. However, at this time the front of the CME moves in the opposite direction, so severe geomagnetic storms on our planet are not expected.
“Coronal mass radiation is provided from the ground … The front moves rather slowly and farther from our planet,” Vincent Ledin said on social networks.
In NASA they added: such “burning canyons” rose when the sun’s magnetic field lines were suddenly disturbed and built after the explosion.
