Astronomers managed to directly adjust the image of exoplanets at a distance of 110 light years from the ground.
James Webb’s spacecraft for the first time has created a direct image of exoplanets, the mass of which is similar to Saturn.
The planet TWA 7B is located at a distance of 110 light years from Earth, reports The Guardian with a study of the study published in the journal Nature.
It is a real success in the observations of the remote world. In fact, usually planets outside the solar system (exoplanets) can be found in indirect ways – for example, according to the shadow they thrown into their star. But at this time, scientists have obtained a direct picture of the planet thanks to the new telescope device, which creates the effect of darkening, masks of bright star light.
TWA 7B is unique: its mass is approximately equal to Saturn, but it is 10 times smaller than any exoplanet, which has previously been observed by the direct procedure. He spun around a young star – he was only 6 million years old. The planet is located very far from its luminary – about 50 times more than the soil from the sun. This means that its orbital period lasts several hundred years.
This discovery not only reflects the technical capabilities of the Webb telescope, but also helps to better understand the development of planet systems. Researchers hope that such observations make it possible to approach the discovery of living conditions outside the solar system.
