Starting with selling books and then diversifying into the cloud (Amazon Web Services), streaming (Prime Video, Amazon Music) or even supermarkets (Whole Foods), Amazon is now inviting itself into medical practices. The e-commerce giant said Thursday it will pay about $3.9 billion to buy U.S. private healthcare chain One Medical.
The group, which was once funded by Google, has 182 medical centers with lick grooming and teleconsultation services available anytime for a $199 annual subscription. “We think health is pretty high on the list of services that need to be reinvented.”says Neil Lindsey, vice president of Amazon Health Services, the Seattle group’s health care subsidiary.
