Doctors told why Ukrainians die more often

Noncommunicable diseases have become the main cause of premature death in our country.

Noncommunicable diseases are the leading cause of premature death (before age 70) in Ukraine. This was reported by the Ministry of Health in connection with the nationwide STEPS study.

As the researchers noted, most Ukrainians’ lives are cut short by cardiovascular diseases.

According to the STEPS study, it is cardiovascular disease that caused 65.8% of all deaths from any cause in 2012, and in 2017 – 67.0%.

“At the same time, most diseases of the cardiovascular system can be avoided if you lead a healthy lifestyle,” the experts wrote.

Also, the Ministry of Health has given recommendations on how to keep the heart healthy. So, experts recommend:

  • ensure healthy sleep;

  • get rid of nicotine;

  • be physically active;

  • eat well;

  • monitor weight;

  • control the level of glucose and cholesterol in the blood;

  • take blood pressure readings more often.
