Archaeologists have dug pyramids and monuments in Los Abuelos – one of the oldest ceremonial centers of Mayan civilization.
In the northern part of Guemala, archaeologists discovered the remains of the ancient Maya city, with almost 3 thousand years. The found was made in the Department of Peten, and the opening details were published by The Guardian.
The city, named Los Abuelos (translated from Spanish – Great -Grandfather or Grandfather), is located 21 km from the famous archaeological object of Waisaktun. It is dated to the average pre -classical period (800-500 BC). Archaeologists have found the pyramids, monuments and ceremony structures indicating a special religious role of the city.
The Ministry of Culture of Guatemala said Los Abuelos, along with two other things, formed a triangular city, which the researchers did not know. This discovery gives you to re -imagine ideas about early social and political organizations in the region.
Mayan civilization appeared around 2000 BC and reached the climax of development between 400 and 900 years of age in the territories of Modern Guatemala, Mexico, Belize, Honduras and Salvador.
By the way, in April only archaeologists made another discovery -in the Tikal region they found a 1000 -year -old altar of Tainaacan culture, indicating connections between two great civilizations located more than 1300 km from each other.
Tikal is the main archaeological attraction of Guatemala and one of the most popular tourist areas in the country.
Earlier in the area of destruction of the ancient Tikal city in Guatemala, researchers found the remains of some children at an altar created more than 1600 years ago.
