Animals not only lived longer, but remained healthy. Clinical trials in public can begin as soon as possible.
European scientists have tried a combination of two drugs to mice and found that it expanded their hope of life by almost 30%. According to Sciencealert, animals not only lived longer, but also remained healthy – less acute inflammation and eventually cancer.
We talk about rapamycin and trametinib preparation – both are used to treat different types of cancer. Rapamycin is also used to prevent the decline of organs during transplantation and has been shown to encourage results in expanding life in animals. The trams have extended the life of the fruit flies, but its effectiveness in mammals remained discussed.
The team from the Max Planck Institute (Germany) conducted a study, studying the effects of each drug separately and together. Rapamycin separately expanded the lives of rats of 17-18%, trametinib-by 7-16%, and together they gave an increase by 26-35%.
During the experiment, mice began to regularly provide medicines at the age of six months, after which they recorded their hope of life. The average life expectancy increased by 34.9% in women and 27.4% in men, and the maximum – by 32.4% in women and 26.1% in men.
Moreover, this thing is not just for more years: animals remain active at an older age, have less body weight, the best heart function, fewer liver and spleen tumors, as well as decreased inflammation related to age in the brain, kidney, muscle and spleen.
According to geneticist Linda Partridge, one of the leaders of the research, to expect people to live up to 130 years. However, these drugs can be the basis for improving the quality of life in old age.
Genetic analysis has shown that some changes only appear in the simultaneous use of both drugs. There are no effects on combined therapy, except known for each of the drugs separately.
Since both drugs have been approved for people in the USA and EU, clinical trials in the public may begin as soon as possible.
The study has been published in the journal Nature Aging.
We reminded, earlier it was reported that the drugs found that the return of youth a week by making aged cells.
